Guinness Christmas Tree

July 2004:
Alas it was not meant to be! My tree didn't survive. I think the soil may have gotten parched as was on the window sill in direct sunlight. Like us they can get burnt and adding water would simply make it even hotter! So, I am going to try again (once I find the seeds) and this time keep it out of direct sunlight.

As a marketing wheeze Guinness sent out Christmas Tree seeds this December so that you could plant your own Christmas tree and keep it watered with guiness to make it grow. Well I loved the idea but wasn't too keen on inflicting the human hang over condition on some poor little helpless seedling.. it might take to the black stuff too and have withdrawal symptons when it gets replanted outside.. can't have that! lol

Anyway I planted three seeds in January and two of them have sprang forth. I'll need to repot them so their roots stay separate. I hope it all goes well.. hoe, hoe, hoe.. ;)

It's growing soooo fast that I'm going to photograph it quite often now.

Biodegradable pot replanted into plastic pot. The taller one has grown a bit though the smaller one bit the dust. The tree sprouts branches and pushes up through the middle repeating.

The repotting was successful. The tallest seedling has sprouted a new section of branches.. The smaller one has remained almost unchanged.

I'm going to repot them now... hope it doesn't upset them too much...

The seed casing seems to remain atop the shoot protecting the stem below. It is pushed off as the branches shoot up and out.
