Barry's Poem

A poem sent to me in response to my Fathers Day Song.

23 June 2004

A POEM I DID AFTER READING ABOUT JOLLY LAST YEAR SIMPLE AND NOT VERY ORIGONAL I KNOW. I DO GET CONTACT WITH MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER BUT I HAVE NOTICED THE BONDS GROW LESS OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF.

Where are you daddy, time is marching on,
I'm sorry child I am weary,
and my heart cries an unhappy song.

What are you doing daddy, to change the way things are,
go to work and sulk all day,
get drunk at your local bar.

Where are you daddy,
when I am put to bed at night,
when I am older, I will think you never tried ,
or put up a fight.

Child I will promise when you are older you will know
That I loved you,
and never wanted to let you go,
Through the barriers, the pain and the tears,
I will fight,
there will be no more talk of lost years,

No more will I endure the hand that I have been dealt,
Its time for me to make my stand,
and fight the injustice of this land,

No more will I just watch you grow and our bonds diminish,
I will take my place and be counted
before the end,
before the finish.

Barry
